BandCamp - Band-camp is a social platform and app for fans and artists. Their main aim is getting fans to discover new music, plus they allow you to sell merch on their platform.

How does band camp pricing work? 

Band-camp is free for artists in the fact that you do not have to pay for an account, but they take their money as a commission per download. It's 15% per digital download on top of however much PayPal takes. 

Pros of band camp - Band-camp is very good for creating a fanbase. More popular in search than Tune-core or CDBaby, fans are going to likely be very familiar with this platform.

Cons of Band Camp - They do NOT distribute outside of Band-camp. They are their own retail store. Although it is popular, you'll have to go elsewhere to get your music onto the Big 4 (iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and Google Play)

Soundcloud - SoundCloud is an online audio distribution platform and music sharing website.

Pros - 

  • Followers -  You can follow people with similar tastes or that often find new music. When they favourite a song, SoundCloud will notify you about it.
  • Recommendations -  Soundcloud will link you to related music, based on what you're listening to 
  • Free to use - You don't have to make an account either, you can just search up an artist or a song with out signing up.
Cons - 
  • Full of bugs - The Soundcloud website has tones of bugs including issues with notifications and uploading sounds.
